The workshop From One to the Crowd invites 10 participants to share a sound story with us—one that contains sound itself, as well as your own voice attempting to narrate or describe that sound.
It can be abstract or concrete, strange or everyday, imagined or absurd; something that must be described by every possible means, or something that is truly difficult to put into words…
By the day before the workshop, each participant had prepared, narrated, and recorded a sound story. On the day of the workshop, we wove three rounds of a telephone game into a series of warm-ups and improvisational exercises. In the first round, two people passed on their stories at the same time: A passed the story to B, B to C, and so on, until the last person memorized the final version without saying it aloud. As time passed, the memory of the story also gradually shifted. In the second round, three people passed on their stories simultaneously. In the third round, four people did so. The result certainly lived up to our expectations:
A sound story about “firecrackers”
A sound story about “half-asleep, half-awake”
A sound story about “screaming”
A sound story about “in the mind”
A sound story about “wooden stairs”
